| Getting Kids in Sync Workshop 29th June 2009Presented by Occupational Therapist Gen Jereb, OTR. THANK YOU GEN JEREB - WE LOVED YOU!The feedback from this workshop is phenomenal. What a day we had - we listened, we learned, we sat, we stood, we sang, we danced, we moved, we laughed, we fought back the tears, we breathed, we were entertained and most of all we were motivated and inspired. We left feeling better able to understand and support our children for who they are. Thanks Gen for a wonderful day - we hope to see you back in Ireland next year! Here's what you said about this workshop Best course I have ever attended! Excellent course - enjoyable, useful & emotional! Gen is brilliant! This workshop was most worthwhile, delivered with humour, with charm and endless energy! Fantastic, interesting, thought provoking seminar Excellent, relevant content I'm blown away, i would have loved it to be a 2 day event as there was just so much information I was totally blown away and l didnt want the day to end as I could have listened and learned from gen for ever.I cant believe how inspirational she was and I constantly felt like she must know my dd..or how could she know that etc..so comforting to know there are so many kids out there like my dd.I just adored the way she said a few time 'these kids aren't broken, they dont need you to fix them or change them all they need is your support in being the pure little beings that they are.' fantastic woman ,so glad I went. Will def watch out for her in the future. I'm at home here now planning all sorts of things with my dd plus we got lots of info off Gen at the end about setting up our own Engine Room I will use the tecniques from Gen to improve functional abilities for children in my role as occupational therapy assistant. Wonderful teaching style. Great pace. Inspirational! Really practical - can use these ideas today! Absolutely fantastic . I learned so much , it was just fantastic, I have been reading over my notes i took on the day and matching them to the solutions i got from her to help my DS, I am armed now with so much info will start my own little "engine room" with the bits we have now that i know what to be doing with them and the result that will follow, she explained things so well for those of us who were not clinical. Fantastic Fantistic can't wait for her to come again Workshop was excellent. Gen was extremely down to earth and very informative. Nice practical examples & therapeutic ideas. Gen was very entertaining. Gen was a very inspirational speaker - lots of useful tips. Very clear and simple explanations of SI. Also liked the practical recommendations for treatment. Fantastic. Very relevant and educational. I now feel I can eventually help my family and friends understand my little girl and appreciate her unique little self. Excellent workshop. Would have loved my child's teacher to attend a workshop like this and it may explain the problems he is having. Excellent speaker, very easy to listen to and to understand. Workshop was very well organised. Gen was excellent! Very knowledgable and informative. Nice to have shop available. Really enjoyed the course. Gen was so energetic and enthusing and so much content. Would encourage all my colleagues and parents to attend. The interactive aspect was terrific and helped with learning. An amazing, interactive, energetic & engaging experience. The analogies & examples were relatable and meaningful. Gen's presentation style was superb. I can actually map what I've learned today onto clients' programs & understand my clients better. Speech & Language Therapist. Really excellent and movating speaker in Gen! Really impressed by the whole day - well done. I loved Gen's down to earth free spirit and sense of fun and limitless knowledge. This was my first of hopefully many workshops with Sensational Kids! JUST MARVELLOUS!

Here is what you say about Sensational KidsWhat a fantastic web site. You are truly wonderful people, after watching the video clip I was in tears. We are awaiting a neurology appointment for our 8 year old daughter and I thought we had problems but there is nothing like a dose of reality to put things in perspective. I will let you know how Grace gets on with her writing aids and will continue to support Sensational Kids in any way I can help. Thanks to all involved in Sensational Kids. They really must be Sensational Parents. Was so happy to read your website. It has offered us the first strand of hope. We are currently going through a 2 yr period of assessments and are awaiting a diagnosis of Dyspraxia for our little boy. Sensational Kids comes highly recommended, we were advised to contact you by Tallaght Hospital
I wanted to just thank you again for a wonderful two days. You are an amazing lady and should give yourself such a big 'pat on the back' for all the work you put into organising those two days. I have not stopped telling my family and anyone else I meet about all the work and effort you have put into creating 'Sensational Kids.' When I get back to America I will continue to share your story and show the DVD to help inspire others as well as to keep your message and story alive.Thank you so much again Karen and I look forward to January. Tania Ferrandino, OTR/L Program Specialist, Handwriting Without Tears I wanted to let you know that the Rock, Rap, Tap and learn cd is going down a treat! The children just love it! There are children dancing to the Alphabet boogie who could barely move before I am a paediatric Occupational Therapist. I happened across your website by chance & I was really impressed the passion & devotion that you exhibit. I think that it is great that you are trying to empower other parents to seek out the best for their children. I stand in sheer admiration for your vision and all your efforts. I wish the charity the best of luck in the future. Kate Gaynor here from Special Stories: Just wanted to send you a quick mail to say I’ve had a look at the new website. It’s really fantastic Karen and the documentary is excellent. I looked at your website recently and was delighted to watch your video and see all the wonderful people big and little on that. I was very moved by the struggle of the parents and how hard they work for their children. You are doing great work assisting children with diverse needs. I have passed on information about your products and services to the parents I am currently working with. Wishing you every success You provide a very neccessary service. Thanks for your hard work. We are a voluntary agency, providing services to children and adults with physical and learning disabilities. We find your website a wonderful resource Wow! you are doing amazing things. And I *LOVE* your rainbow globe logo Congratulations and thanks so much for setting up this website; it is badly needed and much appreciated. Sensational Kids is a great charity, close to my heart because my daughter has DCD and sensory integration disorder. Congratulations on the new re-vamped website. It is great. Documentary is very effective. Well done to all involved. Keep up the good work. We did attend a sensational kids talk held in hotel keadeen last year given by the senior occupational therapist in kildare for the hse and found that evening very helpful I recently attended a Handwriting Without Tears course in Naas and was inspired by the aims and foundation of Sensational Kids. Thank you for the goods which I received. We are very happy with them and with your company’s service. I would like to place an additional order. Congratulations on you endeavours. If we can ever be of any assistance to you here at the school of Occupational Therapy in Trinity, do not hesitate ... Thank you so much for your uplifting e-mail! it has been the first positive and hopeful reply i have received from any agency. What a wonderful website, well done to all involved. What You Said About The Handwriting Without Tears WorkshopsBest day ever in terms of practical things to help my children, not only in terms of just handwriting, but attention and concentration as well. Fantastic for anyone who works with children IMO, special needs or not. Only issue I had with the day is that I didn't bring more cash with me to spend at the shop! Can i just say that I went to the Handwriting without tears day on Tuesday and visited this shop. Firstly the HWT was BRILLIANT and I would recommend it to anyone who feels that their child may have fine motor difficulties or developmental difficulties that will adversely affect their ability to learn how to write. Or indeed anyone who's child is struggling a little with handwriting. I have a 5 year old and a three year old (who has Down Syndrome) and I reckon both of them will benefit from this. So well done! As far as the shop went, I really was impressed by the range of items on sale. Well worth visiting the website ladies. I bought a didicar which is the coolest thing. It looks a bit like a go cart but has no pedals. The steering wheel moves side to side and it makes the wheels go and it moves!! My little 3 year old with DS goes flying on it. She can only pedal down hill on her trike so this is a revelation for her. I will have no walls left but that is a different story! My 5 year old also likes it, as does my husband! (it will take up to 120kg weight)So just wanted to say I am a satisfied customer and good luck sensational kids Thanks to all involved in organising the Handwriting course - it was fantastic and I think all who attended went home inspired. Just a word to say thanks so much for all your work on the HWT workshops, you must be WRECKED!It was fantastic to be able to see and learn so much in one day! Best " inservice" I've ever done, thanks again I attended the HWT workshop today and found it excellent. I would now like to do the Print Tool workshop I just wanted to say well done on a really well organised day last Tuesday. The video really brought it home how lacking services are for childrenin your area and its great to see you as parents being so proactive for your children, though it must be very frustrating at times. Congratulations on the workshop. It was fantastic. You have done more for me in one year than any other charitable organisation has ever done. Presentation was excellent, as was shop and material supplied as part of the course. I really enjoyed all aspects of the course. Thanks very much. Resources are superb & great value Presenter had excellent ability to keep whole room interested. Fantastic. Well done on all your work. Very inspiring. So interesting – thank you! Very basic, very helpful. Great energy & volunteering. Nicest venue and one of the best workshops that I’ve attended in the last few years. Very affordable. Excellent handouts/material/items on sale This workshop was really excellent – the video at the beginning was heart breaking – well done to all for creating awareness and helping others. Really enjoyed, Presentation great. Well done! Enjoyed the day. Well presented. Very well presented and organised. Easy to follow and interesting day. Very well presented, well organised, facilitator excellent, sensational kids staff/members were very friendly & helpful Very comprehensive and well presented. Well done. An excellent presentation – a great way to teach handwriting. Thanks for all the resources that was on display Very well organised and wonderfully presented day. No doubt due to the depth and breadth of the presenters experience. Well done. Excellent presentation. Brilliant tips that can be put into practice immediately. The presenter spoke clearly and explained all aspects of the course, had a great knowledge of all aspects. Very enjoyable and practical too. Lots of information. Good format. Excellent. Very well organised. Very informative. Superb presentation. Very informative! Loved the music. Absolutely fantastic. Great tips for helping children regarding attention and play as well. The presenter was great. She was so clear & hit the point. Excellent presentation. Excellent kit. Fabulous presenter. Really taught us how to do things. Excellent structure. I am a parent of a preschooler with Down Syndrome. She shows strengths in fine motor skills and an interest in handwriting. I now feel equipped to capitalise on this. Well presented. Very enjoyable. Excellent delivery and organisation – it was a pleasure to attend. Thank You. I loved it all….. Very inspirational and it’s fun and incorporates movement. Excellent way of learning as I too believe if the body is activated the mind won’t focus to learn. An excellent idea – something that really fills the gap for parents. Thank you so much for running it. Good workshop – enjoyable Very informative and hands on I wish I had been at this 5 years ago. What You Said About The Sensational Kids Star Writers & Kids In Sync Occupational Therapy Groups For ChildrenBen is really enjoying and thriving from the Star Writers programme. Well done.I appreciate so much the work and time both Joan & Aisling put into Ben and I have seen him reaping the rewards. I will endeavour to do even a fraction of what you did with him - no correction - I'll follow by your inspiration. I look forward to meeting you again! I got more feedback than ever before at anything he attended, I was thrilled with that. Graham did benefit from the group greatly. It helped us focus on easy simple ways of putting the homework into daily situations. It works well and we can see a calming effect on him. He most definately enjoyed the group. It is close to home (big bonus to us all). He enjoyed the interaction with the kids in the group. And it was fun all the way. Can't beat that! The parent information evening was extremely beneficial, and necessary, before the sessions started. Us mothers are used to discussing the various problems and obstacles that arise due to our childrens' condition, so I think the information evening would have been especially helpful for the fathers. Audrey and Aisling were both very approachable and let us know that they would be available if we needed them.
I felt that we were kept informed every week about what was going on, and why. The typed sheets and the beautifully designed star charts supplied were great . It was very helpful. I think Joshua loved it. I think that Roisín benefitted enormously from the group, both socially and physically. She really looked forward to attending each week and it was fabulous to see her excited about going somewhere rather than expressing anxiety and fear as is usually the case. I would highly recommend the group to others. I would definetely recommend the group to my friends and have done so. I would like to thank you for having Eoghan over the last seven weeks. He really enjoyed himself. Although hesitant at first he really did enjoy the group. I met with his teacher at school and she said all he talks about were his friends in Nurney and the games they played. I have copied these handouts for school and where possible they are incorporating it into Adam's daily routine. They are even using some of the activities for all the class! Just a quick note to say hello and thanks. Graham is enjoying the group sessions of OT (Kids in Sync Group) and is doing well. The group session seems to work so much better than the one-to-one. I am so thrilled to get your email!!! Finally ...O.T. closer to home. I think its great that your putting together these groups. I will be recommending the group to anyone I can. You were a great find to us and I hope to be part of the group sessions again
Thats a great help to us, as parents, to feel we have a "plan" for the next few weeks. Thanks again. Very excited about the Star Writers Group. You must be so proud and happy to see such progess after all your hard work. Definately value for money! The ratio was just nice and didn't make it feel like 'work'. The handouts were great and Audrey always clarified them before we left, which helped. Both herself and Ashling were great at letting me know how Adam was doing. Even on just a social setting, Adam really came out of himself. The work at home, although difficult at times, at least gave us a focus on what we could do with Adam in our Playtime or generally around the house. The progress he made on week 2 was incredible! Very usefull. Myself and my husband attended the parent information evening. It was nice to chat to other parents with similar issues. Also great to get an overview of the course content before it began. We felt that Adam had a good chance at success because the therapist knew a bit about him before the course started. Even just chatting to Ashling we got a good tip that has helped Adam enormously. Well done to you all and thank you all so very much. I hope you realise what a difference you are making. |
