We’re delighted to announce that Sensational Kids is amongst the first verified social enterprises in Ireland to receive the internationally recognised People and Planet First verification for putting people and planet before profit. People & Planet First is a robust verification mark for social enterprises which is recognised globally and adopted in 130+ countries.

The verification focuses on five core standards:

Purpose: We exist to solve a social and/or environmental problem.
Operations: We prioritise purpose, people and planet over profit in operational decisions.
Revenue: We have a self-sustaining revenue model.
Use of surplus: We reinvest the majority of any surplus towards our purpose.
Structure: We choose legal structures and financing that protect and lock-in purpose long-term.

 

Spearheaded by The Department of Rural and Community Development and Social Enterprise Republic of Ireland  this initiative aims to further develop the social enterprise sector based on the best international practices, and to highlight verified social enterprises through this verification process that is stewarded by the SEWF – Social Enterprise World Forum C.I.C Verified enterprises include social enterprises, fair trade enterprises, cooperatives, not-for-profit businesses, earned-income nonprofits, social businesses, and more.

 

Every enterprise with the People and Planet First verified badge solves social and/or environmental problems and reinvests the majority of profit for the many, not the few. In the case of Sensational Kids, we work to solve the problem of children with additional needs not being able to access assessment and therapy supports due to lengthy public waiting lists. All profits are reinvested into our mission to provide accessible therapy services for children with additional needs.

 

This is a very special verification for Sensational Kids to receive following a very robust application process to verify our business model. It highlights the work of true social enterprises who are purpose focused.
