County Kildare LEADER Partnership are delighted to award funding of €7,863 to Sensational Kids for a new Hippotherapy Project.
Hippotherapy uses the movement of horses as a strategy for occupational therapists, physiotherapists and speech and language therapists to address impairments, functional limitations and disabilities.
Sensational Kids Occupational Therapist Laura Kelly completed specialist training in the USA and will be bringing her skills to the project which will operate from JAG Equestrian in Rathmore.
Funding under the Rural Development Programme (LEADER) will go towards special equipment to kickstart the project. A customised mounting block has been commissioned and a ceiling hoist will be installed.
Kildare Local Community Development Committee approved the funding. The decision makers complemented the leadership and innovation shown by Sensational Kids in bringing this unique therapy to Kildare and the region.
CEO of Sensational Kids Karen Leigh said “We are delighted to partner with Kildare Leader Partnership to bring this much valued hippotherapy service to families of children with additional needs. “
Rural Development Officer with CKLP, Helen Mulhall said that the project is a shining example of social inclusion in rural development. A local social enterprise and rural business are coming together to provide accessible and affordable therapy service for families and children with disabilities.
Sensational Kids would like to express our sincere thanks to Kildare Leader Partnership and Kildare Local Community Development Committee for their support for this very innovative and worthwhile project.
